Corporate Re-Org.

The New York Times loves the corporate “reorg”. I’ve solved the crossword puzzle 270 days in a row - hold your applause until the end please - and I would feel safe saying that “reorg” has been an answer 5-7 times a month. That‘s a lot of shuffling to make the pieces fit.

That’s what I’m thinking about here. Not so much in terms of personnel: it’s me and Understanding here full time. We don’t have the money to expand our workforce nor do I think that’d be the best allocation of funds if we did, but we need to take a different approach to achieve the growth and awareness we’re seeking here. This is natural, I hope, when you start a new business. It’s risky, and things don’t work sometimes, but you take the chance and then you adjust when you see where you land. The important thing is we’re meeting our deadlines in terms of music, but we need to shift our approach in terms of marketing and social media. We need to divide our time better to produce more quality music and expand into video as well. We need to get people to want to spend time with us, and time is a highly valued commodity these days.

We’re about to spend the month of July on the road, traveling the country. I think it’ll be a nice chance to have fun and see new things, get a little rest, and also get some fresh air and fresh ideas. When we return to LA we’ll be changed people and will have altered our approach in a hopefully meaningful way. Here’s to keeping moving.

It Finally Happened

It finally happened. I missed a day. No post yesterday. I’m not gonna make any excuses. I am definitely bummed, though. When I look back at this year I’ll remember yesterday as the day I fucked up. Just kidding. Kinda.

Anyway, today I got my roof rack. We’re getting ready to spend the whole month of July road tripping. It’s going to be a great time, but I am definitely stressed about the state of affairs regarding the label. We’re underperforming and we’re about to introduce the third act on our roster and it’s not looking like we’re going to finish everything I wanted to finish pre-trip. So that all stresses me out. But over these next three or four days I’m going beast mode. We’re gonna get everything done and it’s gonna be great and then we’re gonna go see the country and have a great time and we’re going to be better off for it.

I sound believable, right? We’re good. It’s fine. One day soon I’ll get back to a better place where I feel like I have interesting things to share that might make your lives a little easier or more colorful or more rewarding. Promise.

That Would Be Silly

Only an idiot would try to do something like create an animated rap duo with no skills for drawing or animating. Right? Remember the name.

TBH

We had two pretty disappointing releases in June. Both Day Job and Didn’t You are falling well short of my expectations based on how the other singles have done and we also invested in some extra support and PR this time around so I’m pretty bummed to say the least. But life goes on! And maybe these songs just need a little more time. I’m not sure. I have to find a way to get people to talk about what’s going on. To get invested and want to share! We’ll keep trying.

San Diego

In San Diego with my parents this weekend. Might see some of the world lacrosse championships. There are more countries represented than I expected! Might get to the beach. Might just hang out at this AirBnB and find fun places to eat. Seeing as I am on vacation, I will likely keep these brief. Have a good night!

Draft Day

Today is NBA Draft Day. A new class of prospects will be selected and their whole lives will change, as they become professional basketball players and begin their careers. Hearing their names called will mark the culmination of a life-long pursuit of a dream - an inspiring example of commitment and dedication to achieving a goal. This year, the first pick is going to be Victor Wembanyama, a 7’5” 19-year-old from France who can do anything he wants on a basketball court, and anything he wants in life. Congratulations to all the kids that are about to have a once in a lifetime experience.

I used to dream about being the number one pick. In basketball, sure but that wasn’t really realistic. In my pursuits, I wanted to know what it would be like to feel chosen, destined for greatness. I think that time is past now, seeing as I’m closing in on 30 years on this planet, but that doesn’t mean I can’t achieve the same goals without being picked number one. There are lots of people that go undrafted. Maybe I’m a late bloomer. I think all that matters is if you put the work in, not when.

Woopsie Daisy

Still June 21 as far as I’m concerned. Finally starting to make some solid progress on what will become our fourth act this year. I got so wrapped up in it that I forgot to post here today. Also forgot to eat, until we made some nachos for dinner. They were excellent. Also bought a roof rack for my car. Roooooad trip coming up. Make sure you spend your time while you have it. From what I hear, the minutes don’t roll over. Goodnight!
