Gettin’ Sexy

To me, life is all about gettin’ sexy. Feeling good about yourself. Moving & grooving. Whatever that looks like to you, I hope you’re gettin’ sexy.

Roe’s Garden is gettin’ sexy this Friday, March 24, when they release their new single “Gotta Have It.”

Super sexy.

Meet Me In The Middle?

With each passing day, my attitude moves more and more to one of complete and total apathy. Ya know? Like balls to the wall, caution to the wind, I don’t even care anymore lemme just do whatever the fuck and stop thinking about how I’m going to do it. Maybe if I completely let go then it’ll be easier. Why should I care? Why should I worry? Why should I consider the details?

Because I do, I guess. I just wish I didn’t. You can’t change your nature. Can you? I don’t know you can cut down trees and plant a garden, but I guess that’s just your environment. You know what I’m saying? Do you get it? I don’t care. Whatever.

Is it ever going to stop raining in California? I have no heat in my house. My fingertips are frozen. But I don’t have AC either, so I don’t necessarily want it to get hot. I don’t care.

I have things to do. Somebody just got in an accident outside my house. I’m not even gonna go look cause I don’t care.

Ok maybe I should keep caring a little.

PTO

I know it’s not gonna be this year, but eventually I’d like to take some time off. An extended vacation. Like, 30 or 40 years off. That’s what I’m looking forward to.

Morpheus is Four

Morpheus turned four on March 13 and I FORGOT ABOUT HIS BIRTHDAY. Don’t let your stupid job get in the way of remembering real things that matter like your dog’s birthday. Don’t be like me. I’m going to go get him a puppacino or something. Actually I might not because I kinda think puppacinos are stupid. This is stressful. Do you think he knows I forgot? Don’t be like me.

Actually wait the shelter I got him from didn’t even really know his real birthday anyway. For all I know his birthday could be tomorrow. Also he’s a dog and he can’t talk and I don’t think he thinks about birthdays the same way people do. People are so dumb. Ugh, Don’t be like me.

Vienna

I stress out a lot over everything. Sometimes it’s valid and sometimes it’s overdramatic, but that’s my nature. For now I think I’m managing it pretty well seeing as we’ve maintained our consistency and met all our deadlines up to this point, so I just have to remind myself to breathe at the end of the night and keep doing what I can. I can’t be everything I wanna be before my time, right?

But my tattoo artist once told me he was going to Vienna “ya know, cause of that Billy Joel song” and that’s the kind of freedom to which I aspire. One day.

Manly Men

Beautiful Idiots Proverb #6: “Manly men read the instructions”

It’s so hard to be a man these days.

I’m just kidding. It’s still fairly easy. Very few challenges. Lots of freedoms. Ample opportunities for men in this world.

But we do find ourselves at a point in time where what it means to be a man is changing. There’s more expression in style, less expectation to be the conventional man of older generations. I’d like to ask men everywhere to do one thing. I’ll do it, too. Read the instructions.

You’re not required to know everything about everything on first sight. That’d be ridiculous. Nobody’s expecting you to understand all mechanics of every day life. Trying to hid the fact that you don’t know and stubbornly attempting to complete a task is not manly. It’s annoying and dangerous and it’s going to make you look dumber than your already are. I’m not just talking about putting together the furniture you bought from IKEA or fixing the drain under the sink. This applies to the way you walk through your life. I’m using “read the instructions” loosely here as a catch-all. When you read the instructions, you’re taking the time to educate yourself. When you educate yourself, you’re preparing yourself for the situation you’re about to enter. When you’re prepared, you are more sensitive to the needs of your environment, and therefore more useful. This process increases satisfaction for everyone involved.

Don’t you want to make people happy? Don’t you want to contribute? Swallow your pride. Read the instructions. That’ll make you so manly.

You Have To Try!

Beautiful Idiots Proverb #5: “He who failed… tried.”

I watched The Oscars a couple nights ago. Everything Everywhere All At Once won a whole lot of awards, including Best Supporting Actor, which went to Ke Huy Quan. I’ve been particularly moved by him this Oscars season. In his speech and anytime I saw him get interviewed he was so genuine, so grateful. In his speech he implored everyone watching to keep their dreams alive. He had almost given up on his after decades of not working, but support from his loved ones and persistence eventually led him to Hollywood’s biggest stage, and what looked to be an incredible moment of fulfillment.

Now, not everyone will be like Ke Huy Quan. Not every chase will have a movie quality ending. But everyone has dreams. I truly believe everyone has something inside they long to pursue. When you know what that thing is, the worst thing you can possibly do is… nothing.

To let your dreams die is to let your self die. Why ignore the thing that makes you feel most alive? In my experience, the thing that holds most people back is fear. A fear of the unknown, a fear of disappointment, a fear of failure. With all due respect, failure is a silly thing to be afraid of.

Anyone who has ever succeeded has failed first. There is no shame in failure! When you feel compelled to do or be something bigger, you owe it to yourself to try your very best. Even just the attempt will bring you closer to your full potential. The knowledge and experience gained will be invaluable. So don’t let your fear hold you back. You might succeed or you might fail, but at least you tried your best. You didn’t sell yourself short. You can be proud of that.
